Vines
Clio’s robes are botanical. I have been experimenting with different ways to render that. I used a Dremel and a grinder to selectively remove the polished surface from this piece of green marble, creating an effect that reminds me of a block print. A few years ago I saw a sculpture exhibit at BrookGreen Gardens in Murrells; Inlet, South Carolina. It featured the work of the Shona, stone artists from Zimbabwe. They used surface treatments so creatively to such amazing effect. I find their work very inspiring.
I have done over a dozen drafts of Clio’s robes, trying to find a pattern that worked for the story and the materials. This is the latest- and hopefully last- version. Yesterday at the shop I was hunting around in the alley for leaves and vines to use as models.
