Smith Cake

This is a Smith Island Cake, the official dessert of Maryland. I have to admit that prior to working on this mosaic, I didn’t know states had official desserts. There are nine layers of vanilla cake interlaced with chocolate frosting. The cake itself was relatively straightforward to make. That fork sticking in the top was stupid hard. There’s some mosaic tape- imagine super duty scotch tape- over the cake, to help hold it together while I was making it and fitting it all together.
